His Story

As I wrote this poem, I pictured our lives represented by a story. I pictured God planning to write the story of your life and my life—planning the joys, the sorrows, the changes, the unexpected—and in love, penning a story that is not really any of ours. It’s His, for His glory.

An Author wise prepared to write
A story fresh and new,
And never was a pencil grasped
By Hand more kind and true.

His eyes into the future looked,
As only He could see,
From the beginning to the end,
This life that was to be.

"I'll write of joy and answered prayer,
Of treasured blessings great,
Of paths so clear that she will know,
Life is not left to fate.

"I'll write in happiness and love,
Of dreams fulfilled, complete.
For every story must contain
The bitter and the sweet.

"I'll write of sorrow, too, and pain,
Of change that brings the tears,
For otherwise, how can she learn
To trust Me through the years?

"I'll write in disappointment's hurt,
Sometimes she'll walk alone,
Because of that she'll cling to Me,
And I will keep Mine own.

"I'll write in unexpected things,
Much different than she'll plan,
These will be times to walk by faith
When she can't understand."

The Author smiled; began to pen
His perfect master-plan,
And never story has been writ,
By a more loving Hand.
