He Knows

I’m a planner. I like to plan my day, my week, my year, my life… you get the idea! However, as some of you are probably thinking already, I have learned that life is not something you can neatly plan. And as time goes on, there are three words I say more and more often in my mind, “I don’t know.” That can be a scary, overwhelming place to be. But it is also a sweet place to be when you draw closer to the One Who knows all things.

Today, I want to offer you comfort and encouragement in your life. I want to share with you what the Bible says about God knowing, and it’s my prayer that you would take courage as you realize that there is One Who knows you and the details of your life intimately. And while there may be many things that you don’t know, you can know Him. You can know and rest in His promises.

He Knows the Way We Take

But he knoweth the way that I take: when he hath tried me, I shall come forth as gold (Job 23:10). When the story He’s writing you is different from what you’d planned; when you don’t know what the future holds; when you are going through trials and it seems there’s no way out—then rest in this truth. He knows the way you take. Nothing in your life is arbitrary or unknown to the Lord. He knows the path before you, and He will safely lead and guide you.

And someday, when the testing and the trials are over, you will realize that He used them in your life to make you more like Him. So whatever it is that you are facing today—trust the One Who knows the path. He tries you in love, to purify you.

He Knows Wisdom

In Job 28:12, Job asks a loaded question: “But where shall wisdom be found? and where is the place of understanding?” The answer is found in verse 23, “God understandeth the way thereof, and he knoweth the place thereof.”

The longer I live, the more I begin to realize just how much wisdom I need—and don’t have! But I am so thankful that I know the One Who has all wisdom, and will freely give it to any who ask. If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him (James 1:5).

We all face decisions every day, some big and some little. But whatever decision you are facing, you don’t have to make it alone. The Lord offers you His wisdom, far above and beyond our feeble abilities of discernment. Seek His face, ask for His wisdom. He will guide you!

He Knows Our Heart and Our Thoughts

If we have forgotten the name of our God, or stretched out our hands to a strange god; Shall not God search this out? for he knoweth the secrets of the heart (Psalm 44:20-21). I don’t believe it is possible to know a person in a deeper, closer way than to know their every thought and feeling. And that is how the Lord knows His children. He knows the secrets of your heart, good and bad.

O LORD, thou hast searched me, and known me. Thou knowest my downsitting and mine uprising, thou understandest my thought afar off. Thou compassest my path and my lying down, and art acquainted with all my ways. For there is not a word in my tongue, but, lo, O LORD, thou knowest it altogether. Thou hast beset me behind and before, and laid thine hand upon me (Psalm 139:1-5).

I’d encourage you to read the whole of Psalm 139. It is such a beautiful passage, and every word of it is true. No one can love or know you more than the One Who created you and died for you. This gives me such confidence in prayer to come to the Lord freely and fully, to pour our my heart before the One Who already knows it.

He Knows Our Frame

Like as a father pitieth his children, so the LORD pitieth them that fear him. For he knoweth our frame; he remembereth that we are dust (Psalm 103:13-14).

As someone who deals with health issues, this verse is incredibly comforting. God knows our weakness, our mortality, and He knows the days and hours of our life. Our times are in His hand (Psalm 31:15). While our bodily weakness or limitations may be frustrating to us, the Lord isn’t fazed by them. He pities us, He knows that we are weak, and He chooses to make His strength perfect in our weakness (1 Cor. 12:7-8).

He Knows What We Need

Therefore take no thought, saying, What shall we eat? or, What shall we drink? or, Wherewithal shall we be clothed? (For after all these things do the Gentiles seek:) for your heavenly Father knoweth that ye have need of all these things: But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you (Matt. 6:31-33).

Isn’t that what we do so often? Take thought for our life, worrying about the future. But that isn’t necessary. Our first focus is to be on the Lord, and He will provide for our needs. I wonder how much of the energy we spend on worrying could be spent on seeking the Lord? He knows our needs. He will take care of us.

What is the use of praying if He already knows our needs? It’s so that we can get to know Him! The Christian life is about relationship.

Never be afraid to entrust an unknown future to a known God.

He Knows His Own

The LORD is good, a strong hold in the day of trouble; and he knoweth them that trust in him (Nahum 1:7).

You see, the Lord knows His own—those who have trusted Him for salvation, those whom He has cleansed by His blood—in a special way. Those who are His children through faith in Christ Jesus (Gal. 3:26) are so very precious to Him. He will never leave, forsake, or forget you. And He wants to have an ongoing relationship with you. Salvation is not just about getting to go to heaven someday. Jesus defined eternal life in John 17: 4, “And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent.

And as we grow ever nearer to the Savior, He asks us to live like we know Him. Nevertheless the foundation of God standeth sure, having this seal, The Lord knoweth them that are his. And, Let every one that nameth the name of Christ depart from iniquity (2 Timothy 2:19). May His knowledge of us draw us to know Him more. What a privilege it is to have a relationship with our Creator and Savior!

Thank you for using Nahum 1:7. All of that chapter speaks of our present world situation, and that God knows it all.
He knows us, He knows ALL. What a powerful picture that is. He will make an end to the darkness. His Glory will fill the earth. And in all of that, we rejoice.
