    Inspiration for Your Week #11

Hello my friends! As we enter a new month tomorrow—actually, the first month of a new season, we’re mindful of the uncertainty of life. Yesterday at church, the preacher reminded us that we are not in control. I know that I too often forget that! There is something in us that fears losing control, but the reality is, we’ve never had it. I was reminded anew to surrender my life—every hope, every dream, every fear, every uncertainty—into the hands of my loving Lord. Into the hands of my living Lord! Because while I am not in control, God is. He is as real, as powerful, as almighty as He was…

    February Favorites

Hello friends! I thought it would be fun to share with you some of what I’ve been using and enjoying recently. February has been a cold and snowy month here, but there have also been a few days of tantalizing warmth…spring is coming! I’ve kept busy with music lessons and Bible school. And, I’ve also enjoyed having more time to read some new books. I have a little surprise for you at the end of this post, so… read on! Five-Minute Gratitude Journal. I received the journal as a gift and it’s been fun to think of blessings to be grateful for! The Lord has truly blessed me, and rather…

    And Yet, He Hears

Hello to all my readers! It’s been a while since we had a guest writer, so I’d like to introduce my wonderful mother as today’s guest writer! How to describe my mom? Well, she’s my best friend, my role model, and my biggest cheerleader. She is a virtuous woman who has truly modeled for me how to walk with God daily. Enjoy this guest post! In my distress I called upon the LORD, and cried unto my God: he heard my voice out of his temple, and my cry came before him, even into his ears (Psalm 18:6). One of the senses we often take for granted is our hearing. …

    Whatsoever Things Part 4

Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things (Philippians 4:8). Whatsoever Things Are of Good Report The phrase “of good report” indicates something that is coming to you from the outside, seeking to influence your thinking. So many voices speaking to us every day! So many “reports”, information we must sort through and choose what to dwell on. The average person has more than 6,000 individual thoughts each day! While we cannot always control what…

    Inspiration for Your Week #10

Hey there, everyone! As I take my Bible classes, it’s been such a blessing to study the foundational truths of God’s word. Sometimes, especially growing up in a Christian home, you take those truths for granted. But how precious they are! In one of last week’s classes, the teacher was discussing the difference between the law and grace. The topic is huge—way too big to go into here in detail—but I finished the class with renewed gratitude for what Christ has done for us! He lived the life we couldn’t live, keeping the law we couldn’t keep (Matthew 5:17). He died the death we should have died, in our place,…

    Vintage Book Favorites

Hello my friends, and happy Friday! The long evenings this time of year are perfect for curling up by the fire with a good book! As you can tell by the title, I love reading vintage books. I especially enjoy vintage fiction since it can be hard to find good modern Christian fiction. Today, I thought I’d share some of my favorites with you. I’ve actually listed these by author since I enjoy multiple books by each. Note: Just because I recommend one or several books by an author does not mean that I endorse everything they write or believe! As always, read with discretion and if you are a…

    Inspiration for Your Week #9

Happy Monday, everyone! Lately, I’ve been learning a bit about an unusual topic–climbing Mount Everest. My mom just finished reading aloud a true story about a man who descended Mt. Everest snow-blind, and we watched several documentaries that helped to give an idea of the challenges that climbers face. Two things stood out at me after hearing each story–first, the solid conviction that I will never climb Mt. Everest! 😊 Second–the need to endure. Those athletes had to endure bitter cold, hunger, painful muscles, low oxygen, exhaustion, and separation from their families. I can’t even imagine living through a blizzard with sub-zero temperatures and 80-m.p.h. winds on the side of…

    Why I Love the Hymns

Hey friends! Ever since I was little, I’ve been listening to, playing, and singing the old hymns. As the years have gone by, I’ve come to love them more than ever. While I enjoy a number of godly, beautiful songs/hymns written recently, there’s just something so precious about the hymns that live on after half a century or longer! I think that they will always hold a special place in my heart. (There’s also room in there for some newer hymns, too. 😊) After reading a couple of articles on hymns lately, I began thinking about why I love them. They are rich in doctrine. Think about a hymn like…

    Are We Ready?

Based on Luke 22:31-34 and John 21:15-22 “Lord, I am ready,” said Jesus’ disciple, “Both to go with Thee to prison and death, Gladly I’ll lay down my life in Thy service, Yield up for Thy name my very last breath.” Sadly, the Lord looked upon His disciple, “Later today thou shalt Me thrice deny, Thou art not ready yet, though thou art willing, First to thyself and thy sin thou must die.” Often, we say as the eager disciple, “Lord, I am ready whatever the cost, Bid me go anywhere, do something for Thee, Oh, let me spend and be spent in Thy cause.” Looks still the Master upon…

    Whatsoever Things Part 3

“Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things (Philippians 4:8).” Whatsoever Things are Pure “Purity” is a beautiful word. It conjures up the image of white, unsullied snow; of sparkling, clear water; of a snowdrop against a background of brown mud–something clean and undefiled, both inside and outside. We live in a world that is full of impurity in many forms. It assaults our ears, eyes, and mind constantly. Yet, within every believer lives the…
