Book Review: Nests Above the Abyss

Hello, my friends! This is the book I’m going to stay up late tonight to finish reading (which I’ll probably regret tomorrow morning 😊). Honestly, I had a hard time choosing which of Isobel Kuhn’s books to review. Every one of them is excellent, and I’ve read them all through at least once! Some of these books are a little difficult to find (Christian Book Distributors does sell By Searching, and Thrift Books sells some of the others). I received most of mine due to generous family members on birthdays and Christmas. If you can find them, they are so worth reading!

Nests Above the Abyss really reveals the heart of a missionary. Without spoiling all of the books for you 😊…Isobel Kuhn grew up in a Christian home, became a self-described agnostic during her first year of college, and then genuinely came to the Lord as recorded in her book By Searching. God led her and her husband to China as missionaries to the Lisu, an obscure tribe high in the mountains of Yunnan province. She truly loved the Lisu and longed to see them living victoriously and winning their own countrymen to Christ. With her skillful pen, she paints a beautiful picture of those who were poor in the things of this world and rich in Christ. In Nests Above the Abyss, you’ll meet believers like Homay, Leah, Me-do-me-pa, and Romeo and Juliet. You’ll be challenged by their dedication to the cause of Christ.

Have you ever wondered how important it is to pray for your missionaries? You will wonder no longer after reading this book! Even though these events occurred over 70 years ago, I was thrilled as I read of how God worked to bring spiritual victory in one of Satan’s strongholds. The power of prayer is amazing when believers join their hearts with the Lord’s for this lost world!

Isobel Kuhn’s other books include By Searching, In the Arena, and Whom God Hath Joined (both autobiographical); Stones of Fire; Ascent to the Tribes; Children of the Hills; Green Leaf in Drought Time; and Second Mile People. Her writing style is really enjoyable and easy to read. She is probably my favorite author!

Hope you all have a very blessed weekend!

With love,
